You can validate the same in the user interface or in t...

Creating a new model in D365 F&O

Project Export and Import

Image
Project Export and Import Today I want to show how you can export and import projects. It’s very easy and similar to what can be done in AX 2012. Export If you want to export a project of course first you need one – literally – in Solution Explorer. Right-click it and choose  Export Project  YourProjectName . In the  Select Project Package File Name  dialog you need to provide the path and name of the resulting project file. The file extension is  .axpp .  Import Importing a project is super-simple, too. In Visual Studio, click on  Dynamics AX  >  Import Project…  and pick the axpp file you want to import ( File name ). Also you need to define the  Project file location . There’s two choices in the  Settings  area. If you check  Overwrite Elements you won’t get prompted about overwrites of AX metadata or project files.  Open project in let’s you decide if you want to use the  Current ...

Layers concept in D365

Image
Layers : Layers are the traditional AX concept but in D365, there is a new process where we extend layers as shown below. Also when you create your model, you specify which layer the model is going to live in. However the importance of layer is quite minimal for instance, you are not required to provide a key for your model to live in that layer. Previously layers were a single stack of code that over-layered upon each other. This new process uses layers but they are located in independent stacks. This was only an architectural overview of Dynamics AX 365.

D365 Basics (Architeture, Models, Packages, Files)

Models Projects and Packages in D365 Today we will highlight an important architectural change in Dynamics AX 365. In AX 2012, the only option we had was over-layering for any sort of customization/modification in the out of box functionality. We had models/projects as a set of elements, as the part of a given layer. Each layer can have one or more models/projects. Models can be exported to files that have the .axmodel extension and projects can be exported to xpo file. In Ax 2012, models’ files and XPO's are used for deployment purpose.  How do we customize or modify any element in DAX365? In DAX365, we have same elements reside in Application Explorer and these elements are objects such as tables, forms, and classes, menu items, etc. Customization of any object is done once it is added into a project and a project is linked or associated with a model. Model: Unlike AX2012 In DAX365, creating a model is a mandatory thing for any sort of customization. A partic...

Developing a SSRS report using the Report Data Provider in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Image
Overview There are multiple methods to develop SSRS reports in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012. This tutorial will guide you in developing Report Data Provider (RDP) based SSRS reports. RDP based SSRS Reports are used when complex business logic cannot be achieved using AOT query. Pre-requisites Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Visual studio 2012 SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) must be configured Reporting services extensions must be installed in Dynamics AX Important Concepts Report Data Provider (RDP) Class Report Data Provider Class is an X++ class that is used to access and process data for an SSRS report. The RDP class processes the business logic based on a specified parameter and/or query and returns a dataset to the reporting services. In order to create an RDP class in AX, you have to extend that class with  SRSReportDataProviderBase . This tells AX that this class will be used by reporting services to process the data. Two important attributes are use...
